Sitting 8+ hours a day…known to cause incurable boredom and drowsiness, most commonly manifested as staring blank-faced at your computer screen while counting the seconds on the clock. Oh, and it’s not particularly good for your body. That’s why we built these adjustable-height standing desks to keep us on our feet, both literally and creatively.
The idea for the desks originated when Misha had been working for a few months in St. Petersburg. Sans desk, he often found himself standing at counters to work on projects and liked how organic it felt to come and go without constantly getting up and down. Without the idea of sitting down and getting to work, editing felt like less of a job. Therefore, upon returning to Atlanta, he didn’t want to sit at the office all day; hence, the mission to have standing desks was born.
To keep costs down, the standing desks became a DIY project. We paired a desk base (http://www.thehumansolution.com/uplift-900-electric-sit-stand-desk-black.html) with an Ikea table top, which we stained and drilled holes in for wires. To top everything off, we bought cushioned mats (http://imprintmats.com/cumuluspro-anti-fatigue-comfort-mat-new-colors-patterns/) to stand on and vertical computer mice for added comfort. Now, come Mondays, we don’t have to dread being confined to a chair all week since we can sit or stand as we please.
Be sure to check out our desks next time you come by – we’d love to show you more about how we made them!
